On a lovely mid October early morning we found ourselves at Lymington quay waiting to board the boat we had chartered for the day.  It was a still and sunny morning, although the shipping forecast was for gale force 8 later on; we were hoping for something in between as the main purpose of the day was to put our new beacons (the SafeLink R10 Survivor Recovery System plus the McMurdo SmartFind S10 Personal AIS Beacon) through their paces in rough weather.

On a sunny-showery day with calm waters, a small group set afloat to watch the first ever live demonstration of the R10 SRS, Kannad Marine’s brand new survivor location beacon with AIS technology.

As the dry-suit clad volunteer plunged off the side of the fishing vessel into the waters of the Solent, the audience held their breath momentarily as he resurfaced and his lifejacket inflated on cue.

We are just getting back to normal after the Southampton Boat Show. As McMurdo Ltd are based only a short car journey away along the motorway this show has a special significance for us, and many of us here are involved with manning the stand and meeting the public.
